LittleCoupleQ&A_InArticleBill and JenStar of The Little Couple Bill tells us about his life and making the show

How did you meet?

Officially, we met online at a website called datealittle.com. The website was created for and used exclusively by Little People. I wrote to Jen in December 2005 and she wrote back to me in January. We communicated for a while (about two months) before we met in person. I traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to meet Jen on the weekend of her birthday.

Was it love at first sight?

Absolutely! We fell in love immediately and couldn't stop the excitement from that moment forward. We both were in touch with our parents to alert them of the possible huge life change as soon as we left each others company that Sunday....after I booked another flight to get back to Pittsburgh the following weekend.

Why did you decide to make your lives the subject of a TV show?

We were approached by a production company that felt our story was intriguing enough to be on tv. We decided to move ahead a year after the original proposal was offered to us once we knew we would not only be intriguing but an opportunity to be educational and not sensational. We are happy to show the world (or at least our viewers) that you don't need to be tall to stand tall.

How has the experience been?

The television experience has been great. We appear to be well received by the audience and the public at-large seem engaging and eager to meet with us.

At the start of the season we see you moving to Texas - how has that gone?

The move has been great. For Jen, the move was substantial in both opportunity and responsibility. She, of course, has surpassed expectation. For me, the move has been exciting as well. I have made some new friends and continue to run my business from our home in Houston and punctuated visits to NY. The weather is a lot nicer here too!

What are the advantages to being small?

Better gas mileage! We don't need to make the bottom of the bed. We are more recognizable/memorable (that can be good and bad).

What's the toughest struggle on a day-to-day basis of having dwarfism?

The biggest struggle we face daily is the aches and pains associated with our dysplasia's. Although the pain is not debilitating, it often feels as if we are a bit older than our true age.

Has being a little pe
rson held you back at all in your professional lives?

On the contrary, I think being a little person has helped us and the people around us. It has made us stronger, more aggressive, more motivated and more aware of how to work with people. We have both seen resistance and an initial lack of confidence in our ability to get the job done...but those issues were quickly dispelled by glaring success and over-achievement!

If you could both wake up tomorrow and be 6ft tall would you take it?

Why would we? Who knows what kind of people we would be. We certainly would not have met each other and that alone isn't worth the risk!
